Dean Malmgren is a co-founder and data scientist at Datascope, a data science consulting firm in Chicago, where he has helped organizations of all shapes and sizes use data to solve the right problem. Dean received a BS and BSE from the University of Michigan and a PhD from Northwestern University and previously held research positions at Yahoo! Research and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Dean’s work has been featured in places like Crain’s, TIME, Wired, and US News & World Report and, whenever possible, he shares his experience and perspective through his writing and speaking. Dean further contributes to the open source community and is the primary maintainer of packages like textract, scrubadub, and flo. Beyond his responsibilities at Datascope, Dean serves as an advisor for Metis, NUvention Analytics, and the School of Information at the University of Michigan.
