Ahmad Akl
Data Scientist
Ahmad is a Data Scientist at Datascope Analytics. Ahmad has been intensively involved in many exciting data science projects such as designing a brain-computer interface and testing the feasibility of using the heart sound as a biometric. He also designed a novel accelerometer-based gesture recognition system that got published in the top IEEE signal processing journal and has tallied over 150 citations so far. Recently, Ahmad completed his Ph.D. where he designed a smart system that could detect the onset of dementia in older adults using longitudinal trajectories of walking speed and home activity. Before joining Datascope, Ahmad completed the Insight Data Science program in New York where he partnered with a startup company and helped them build a matcher that greatly enhanced their product performance. Ahmad received his M.A.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, both from the University of Toronto in Canada. When not immersed in any data science-y work, Ahmad enjoys watching soccer and is a loyal Arsenal fan, finds pleasure in solving sudoku puzzles, and has fun keeping his two little fellas out of trouble.
